Where do I begin?

Comrades,

I am starting this blog for you. Those who are new to the Kettlebell. If you are reading this blog you are probably in your second week of your 10 week beginners Kettlebell class with Phil Scarito, RKC II, CK-FMS.

First I want to thank King Of Prussia Wellness Center for letting me use their facility during the 10 weeks. Since I have a full ten weeks to teach you all the benefits of Kettlebells we will take it slow. This is the best way to learn. There is no need to rush through the movements. I will do my best to teach you the 6 basic movements that were taught to me at the Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC). The basic 6 movements are: Swing, TGU, Clean, Squat, Press and Snatch. There is a common denominator throughout each move.

In the first class we went over breathing. How to breath behind your shield. Some of you got this others are still working on it, take you time. It's very hard to change your breathing habit, I know. Then we discussed and practiced the hing movement, how to use our hips first. We patterned the Dead lift using a stick behind our backs. For most of you, this was something that you were not used to doing. As I stated in class, we are a quad dominant society, we don't know how to move with our hips first.

Keep practicing the hip hinge movement at home with your stick. Practicing this movement pattern will safely make you understand the hinge, which is what we do when we dead lift, swing, clean, snatch, etc. It's the foundation to everything. Once you feel confident with the hip hinge, try to incorporate the breathing into it.

Next we started to get into the Kettlebell swing. We will review the swing again next week. Don't worry to much about the swing, just practice the dead lift.

See you all soon.
